Have enjoyed the stay. Powered camp site standard. Not to far to go to restaurant or bar. Pool has been placed perfectly under a shady tree and near the restaurant meaning it is ideally located and provides some shade. Kangaroos and possums to be seen at night. Clear skies provide amazing skylines and the location for walks in to the pound and to the peaks near the pound is perfect. Get up early for the walks to avoid the heat of the day.
The walking trails around Wilpena Pound are fantastic, and the staff are very knowledgeable and very helpful. The camping area is well situated and well maintained, although as you'd imagine for such a popular location the pressure on the facilities is significant. With such heavy use the facilities are about due for a "fresh coat of paint". Having said that, the facilities are clean, well cared for and fit for purpose. I've stayed in Station Stays in the area, as well as in Hawker, and over all I prefer Wilpena Pound. Having a strong involvement from the indigenous community adds significantly to the positive experience of visiting Wilpena Pound, especially for international visitors.
Cabins are a bit run down, nothing serious but showing there age perhaps eg not all the windows open as intended. Some windows have venetian blinds which I always think is a bad idea in a hotel room unless you particularly want to get up …
So far so good but really hoping that staff can address the issue we raised regarding the Bee and Wasp infestation at the pool. Too dangerous to allow kids in the water. When my husband raised the issue with reception, we were told they would look into it. So far nothing has been done and it’s hot here and we’d love to go for a swim!
I did like the location a lot, the property is a perfect base for exploring beautiful flinders ranges, being it via scenic flight, 4WD or hike.
All the staff was very friendly, food in the restaurant is good quality, portions are big.
Waiting time can be enormous however.
What I didn't like, is that the room had so many flies inside, and that we were being eaten by ants in bed in the morning, couldn't sleep after 6.30 anymore.
We loved our stay at Wilpenia Pound Resort. The resort is well run and the staff are friendly. We stayed in one of the Safari tents which was very comfortable and enhanced our sense of being in nature. The walks we did were amazing and we …
The gateway to Wilpena Pound hikes, it is a sprawling estate with a large variety of accommodation ranging from upmarket villas to campgrounds, encompassed by a lush forest of enormous river red gums.
I stayed in one of the mid class cabins, which although spacious, found it a bit worse for wear.
The restaurant served amazing meals but desserts lacked depth.
The bar has a great range of wines mainly from Victoria and coffee was stunning!
Staff was very friendly and helpful which adds to the ambience.
We stayed at the campground in an unpowered site so can't comment on the rooms etc, but it was a great spot with excellent renovated toilets, showers, laundry facilities. Allowed to have a campfire (Sept) so that was terrific. Had a wonderful meal in the resort restaurant (ancient grains salad is excellent, mum enjoyed fish and chips). Prices were surprisingly good too - $10 for my glass of wine and $26 for a good size meal. Saw emus yay! Did a very well-signposted walk, so picturesque. Very happy campers!
